There are K-Pop fans across the globe who share the same passion. But on online platforms, it is hard to know about each other’ stories and K-Pop life. Even if we are in the same fandom, it is hard to get to know each other. So at Kpopmap, we started the Kpopmap Fan Interview Project to get to know more about K-Pop fans from different countries: more about their K-Pop life and tastes and to give them the opportunity to share with our readers about their favorite group(s) and bias. Team DLB (DEMIAN Daily Live Brazil) are the next fans answer our questions. They are fans of K-Pop artist DEMIAN. Check out how they entered the fandom, the songs and content they advise to new fans, and much more! Can you introduce yourself? Where are you from? Hello, we are Team DLB (DEMIAN Daily Live Brazil), a Brazilian fanbase dedicated to the singer-songwritter DEMIAN. DLB is composed of three girls: Essize (19 years), CJ (18 years) and Rose (18 years). How and when did you enter the fandom? Essize entered the fandom in 2020/March, a few days after DEMIAN’s debut with ‘Cassette’. Rose entered in 2020/August, when she also became friend with Essize through SNS and she introduced Rose to two songs by DEMIAN, ‘Cassette’ and ‘Karma’. Despite the fact that she really liked the songs, Rose did not expect that she would join the fandom at that moment, but over time, DEMIAN, with his charisma, got a big space into Rose’s heart. And for the last admin: CJ - Shortly after the release of ‘LOVE%’ feat. DAWN, YouTube recommended it to her, and she fell in love with DEMIAN’s voice immediately. What are the reasons why you love your favorite artist? DEMIAN is such a charismatic person and also he is that kind of artist who you feel you’ve known for years when you’ve only known him for just a week. He makes you feel so comfortable, like you are besties. Yet, he debuted at a hard time as the pandemic, he did his best to be close with his fans, doing weekly lives, releasing singles (official and not-oficcial), entertaining with different contests, etc. He is always giving us a lot of love and hope. Beyond that, his voice is so smooth and touching. His songs’ lyrics are unique and have their own charm. Which song by them caught your attention at first and why? When Rose and Essize heard ‘Cassette’ for the first time, they liked the smooth tone of DEMIAN’s voice even when the music is upbeat, presenting a unique color compared to other K-Pop artists, DEMIAN was not trying to follow others’ styles, but releasing his own style. CJ got caught by ‘LOVE%’ for being an addictive song. Its MV is one of DEMIAN’s most complex ones, and the chorus is so catchy that it can’t get out of your mind. Not to mention, it is his most upbeat and kind of ballad song. Can you recommend a title track and a B-side track for new fans? We recommend his latest released song, called ‘BASEMENT BOY’. It is a cheerful song that talks about not giving up on hopes and that soon your wishes will be fulfilled. And for the B-side we will recommend ‘One More Night’. This song has a sad and very deep melody, which you can feel even without knowing the translation. You can get so easily addicted to it. You just can’t stop listening and singing to it all day. Can you recommend a fancam, V-Live, cover video, cover dance, or individual content video of your favourite artist to our readers? The first time DEMIAN went on stage, it was during JTBC’s program, “Superband 2”. So we couldn’t help but indicate the two greatest performances of DEMIAN on Kim JoonSeo Team and Valo Team, in which DEMIAN had a big role. Our 1st recommendation is ‘I Won’t Give Up’ performance that brings great contrasts, a calm melody followed by a calm voice and suddenly, when you are really not expecting that, the voice gains a great strength, making the performance even better. It’s very touching from beginning to end, warming everyone’s heart as well. Our 2nd recommendation is the ‘Time Is Running Out’ performance, which brings a heavy melancholic and sad melody. It’s amazing how DEMIAN’s voice could do an amazing interpretation of all this and get you goosebumps with the strength of this song presented by Valo Team. We also want to recommend one of his contents that he used to do- it is the monthly lives called “Defm 3:11”, where he talks with fans while playing songs according to the theme of the month. Here are our two favorites: “Defm 3:11 Family” and “Deftm 3:11 Fall”.
Can you share with us one of your favorite lyrics? We want to share two lyrics. Starting with ‘Cassette’, a song for those who are heartbroken and can’t forget about love, as in the part: “I carefully follow your vision, where your eyes were. The way we hugged, breathless in the orange sunset”. Another song lyrics we like is from ‘LOVE%’, a song that talks about surviving in a chaotic city, about losing hope in love, but still wanting love. It is the part that contradicts all the rest of the song “We fit the pieces of hearts together like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. I hear the sound of your heels, click clack. Come to me”. Are there any quotes by your favorite artist that you would like to share? In the program “Never A Dull Moment” with DEMIAN as a guest, he said these words “It’s out of my control when bad things happen, but it’s also out of my control when good things happen”. This sentence is applicable when you feel lost with your daily life, so It is a really great sentence to reflect about. And also, the quote that gave us the fandom color: “I Draw You In Orange’’. This means a lot for DE:LIGHT. It is part of the song ‘Cassette’ and since then it has become our way of saying “I love you”. What kind of influence has your favorite artist had on your daily life? The same as in the rest of the world, the pandemic in Brazil was very tough. Whenever we turned the TV on, we only heard about the increasing number of deaths, not letting us go to school or seeing friends and relatives, but whenever we felt upset and tired of this monotonous life, DEMIAN was there, doing a live on Instagram, YouTube or V Live. His smile never fades, just like his jokes. He always came up with something new, always trying to communicate to fans with their own languages like Spanish, French and Japanese, even if it is just a few sentences. Also, there was a time when he was trying teach us how to cook something delicious but burned some garlic (laughs). We could not get out of our houses as usual, but DEMIAN made us feel like everything was okay and he lets us forget a little about the difficult reality. DEMIAN is not just an artist, he is also hope and delight to us. Can you let readers know some facts about your favorite artist that you think people don’t know about?
